Celerio vs Santro: the Clash Continues

The third generation of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio entered the Indian market in 2021. The starting price of the ongoing Celerio starts from ₹5.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and goes all the way up to ₹7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The ongoing Celerio is an upgraded generation with a new platform. By mentioning the new generation, it means that the Celerio received a fresh exterior and interior.

The new Celerio also claims to be the most fuel-efficient car in India, with a rated ARAI mileage of 26kmpl. But the question remains: how does it fare against the Hyundai Santro? Let's find it out in this Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai Santro comparison.

Celerio vs Santro: Size Matters

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio's dimensions measure 3695mm in length, 1655mm in width, and 1555mm in height, and it has a long wheelbase of 2435mm. The Hyundai Santro is 5mm taller than the Celerio. In addition, the Celerio has a higher ground clearance of 170mm and a bigger boot space of 313-litres.

Celerio vs Santro: The Powertrain Battle

In terms of the Hyundai Santro's specifications, it has a 1.1-litre petrol engine that produces 68bhp and 99Nm of torque. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio's specifications, on the other hand, include a 1.0-litre petrol engine that unleashes 65bhp and 89Nm of torque. With these figures, the Hyundai Santro is more powerful than the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. But the Santro lags in fuel efficiency with its more powerful engine than the Celerio. Both cars get a 5-speed manual transmission and an AMT as an option.

Depending upon the engine and transmission, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio features ARAI-claimed mileage ranging between 24.97kmpl and 26.68kmpl.

On the other hand, the Hyundai Santro has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 20.3kmpl.

Amid the soaring fuel prices, patrons need as much mileage as possible from their cars, and that's where the Maruti Suzuki Celerio comes into the picture with its highest-rated mileage.

Celerio vs Santro: The Money Bits

The Delhi price of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio ranges between ₹5.25 lakh (ex-showroom) and ₹7.00 lakh (ex-showroom).

On the other hand, the Hyundai Santro's price starts at ₹4.90 lakh and goes up to ₹6.42 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

These figures reveal that the Maruti Suzuki Celerio costs ₹35,000 more than the Hyundai Santro. But the former has higher fuel efficiency than the latter. So, the Celerio could be the most preferred hatchback among buyers despite being a bit pricier.

Cars to Consider Under 10 Lakh

Over the past few years, consumers' preferences have changed from sedans to compact and subcompact SUVs. The reason behind this paradigm is the benefits of owning an SUV. But this doesn't indicate that other body types are passe. To date, consumers do buy sedans, hatchbacks, etc., but their sales have relatively gone down compared to SUVs. In addition, every buyer has a budget and, more importantly, a purpose. However, if SUVs are not your only preference and you are looking for a different car body at an affordable price, below is the list of cars under 10 lakh.

Hyundai i20: The Hyundai i20 is one of the best hatchbacks in the country. Since its debut in India, it has been Hyundai's best-selling model.

The current generation of the i20 is the first generation to get the N-Line trim. The price of standard variants ranges between ₹7.03 lakh and ₹11.53 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). On the other hand, the i20 N-Line's price ranges between ₹9.95 lakh and ₹12.02 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Baleno: The Baleno is one of Maruti Suzuki's best-selling cars under 10 lakh in India. The new generation of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno's silhouette remains unchanged, but it receives a few tweaks on its exterior and interior. The exterior gets revised headlights and taillights, and it is now feature-loaded to compete with its rivals. The Baleno has only one petrol engine on offer. The engine specifications of the Baleno include a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 113Nm of torque.

The price of the Baleno starts at ₹6.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and goes up to ₹9.71 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Tata Punch: It's been a few months since the launch of the sub-four-metre SUV, the Tata Punch. The Punch is one of the most feature-loaded sub-compact SUVs in its segment.

The front fascia of the Tata Punch is more upright, which gives it a rugged SUV-like look. Under its hood, it gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 84bhp and 113Nm of torque. The Tata Punch's price starts at ₹5.82 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Honda Amaze: The Honda Amaze is one of the best-selling sub-compact sedans in the country. The second generation of the Honda Amaze received a facelift last year in 2021. Since it's a facelift, it gets a few tweaks on the inside and outside, which give the car a more premium look. The Honda Amaze is the best car under 10 lakh on this list. The Honda Amaze has a starting price of ₹6.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki Dzire: The Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been India's favourite sub-compact sedan for more than a decade. This vehicle is popular among private owners as well as fleet owners. The Dzire has the same engine offering as the Baleno. Additionally, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire gets a CNG variant. The price starts at ₹6.24 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
