Yamaha: One of the best
Yamaha is synonymous with high-performance motorbikes. This is not a new trend; it has been the company's concept since its beginning in the 1950s. Genichi Kawakami became the 4th generation president of Nippon Gakki, a firm that manufactured musical instruments and electronics, in 1950. Kawakami planned to diversify Nippon Gakki's business into motorbikes. In 1954, Kawakami's engineering team created their prototype motorbike, the YA-1, a 125cc single-cylinder 2-stroke vehicle. It was a motorbike that demonstrated its worth in an exceptional 10,000km endurance test, and Yamaha Motor Co Ltd was created in 1955, along with its plant, to mass produce this machine. In the years after, the YA-1 won several races around Japan, establishing Yamaha as a maker of high-performance Yamaha Bikes.Yamaha's history in India began in 1985 when the company partnered with the Escorts group to begin locally manufacturing Yamaha motorbikes nationwide. Escorts Yamaha developed various notable bikes under this joint venture, including the RD350, Rajdoot, and RX100, which piqued the interest of performance motorcycle fans in India.
Yamaha created several successful 2-stroke Yamaha Bikes in India, such as the RD, RX, and RXG. Still, with the rising demand for more fuel-efficient motorcycles and ever more rigorous emissions requirements, the firm produced its first 4-stroke motorbike for India, the YBX 125.
Escorts and Yamaha split ways in 2001, and Yamaha India Motor was established. After going it alone, the business didn't have much success with any of its models until 2008, when they released the FZ16, a 160cc muscular naked that took India by storm. They swiftly followed it up with the YZF-R15, a real baby supersport powered by a 150cc 4-valve liquid-cooled engine that pays tribute to Yamaha legends like the YZF-R6 and YZF-R1. Since then, the FZ and R15 have been among the company's most popular models and have undergone several evolutions. Since then, the company has launched many scooters such as the Alpha, RayZR, Fascino (one of their best sellers), and most recently, the Aerox 155 - India's first true performance maxi scooter powered by the same liquid-cooled VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) motor found in the latest generation R15.
