Dimensions
The Tata Safari is 4,661 mm long, 1,894 mm wide, and 1,786 mm tall, and it has a wheelbase that is 2,741 mm long. While the width and wheelbase of the two SUVs stay the same, the Harrier is 4,598 mm longer and 1,706 mm taller than the other model.
Concerning the five-seat SUV on which it is based, the Tata Safari is 63 mm longer and 80 mm higher. In contrast to the Safari, which will be available in two distinct seating arrangements—a 6-seat layout with captain chairs in the middle row and a 7-seat arrangement with a bench-style seat in the middle—the Harrier is a pure 5-seater.
Features
Both SUVs have a very similar set of features. Both the Safari and the Harrier come with a floating 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, a six-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, a premium JBL 9-speaker audio system, cruise control, a 7-inch display for the instrument cluster, an auto-dimming IRVM, drive modes, a panoramic sunroof, Xenon HID projector headlamps, and much more. The Safari has larger 18-inch wheels, while the Harrier has 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Powertrain
The same 2.0-litre four-cylinder Kryotec diesel engine from FCA that powers the Harrier also powers the Safari. This engine produces 350 Nm of maximum torque on both SUVs and 168 bhp of maximum power. It is available with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment or an optional 6-speed AT. On both, front-wheel drive is the default setting.
Safety
Hill hold control and hill hold descent, ABS with EBD, six airbags, traction control, corner stability control, electronic stability program, rollover mitigation, ESP-based Terrain Response system, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, etc. are all included in the cars' safety features. Additionally, the Safari has rear disc brakes and an automatic parking brake with auto hold.
Price
Starting price of Tata Harrier price is Rs 15.00 lakh, with the top-end trim costing Rs 24.07 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom). The Safari, on the other hand, undoubtedly costs more than that, and lies in the Rs. 15.65 t0 Rs. 25.02 lakh price bracket (both prices ex-showroom). However, the exact on-road cost depends on the geography of the consumer as well.
Verdict The Safari and the Harrier are Tata Cars made of the same material. The two SUVs share the same platform, design aesthetic, feature set, safety technology, and drivetrain. The Safari is a three-row SUV, but the Harrier only has room for five passengers, so that's the deciding factor. Tata provides two seating options for the Safari: a 6-seat and a 7-seat configuration. However, this also resulted in a price increase over the Harrier. Despite this, the Safari roughly retails for about Rs 1 lakh more than its smaller sibling.
